Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish.

Everyone has a favorite author – whether it’s due to his/her writing style, characters, narration, etc.  You have a tendency to read each and every one of their books, regardless of the book summary, simply because one of your favorite people in the entire world wrote it.  We’ve decided to share some of our top authors with you, along with our favorite quotes that are attributed to each author.

Olivia’s Top Ten Authors

1. J.K. Rowling

It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.

-Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

2. Lauren Oliver

Maybe you can afford to wait. Maybe for you there’s a tomorrow. Maybe for you there’s one thousand tomorrows, or three thousand, or ten, so much time you can bathe in it, roll around it, let it slide like coins through you fingers. So much time you can waste it.
But for some of us there’s only today. And the truth is, you never really know.

-Before I Fall

3. Cassandra Clare

Will rose slowly to his feet. He could not believe he was doing what he was doing, but it was clear that he was, clear as the silver rim around the black of Jem’s eyes. “If there is a life after this one,” he said, “let me meet you in it, James Carstairs.”

“There will be other lives.” Jem held his hand out, and for a moment, they clasped hands, as they had done during their parabatai ritual, reaching across twin rings of fire to interlace their fingers with each other. “The world is a wheel,” he said. “When we rise or fall, we do it together.”

Will tightened his grip on Jem’s hand, which felt thin as twigs in his. “Well, then,” he said, through a tight throat, “since you say there will be another life for me, let us both pray I do not make as colossal a mess of it as I have this one.

-Clockwork Princess

4. F. Scott Fitzgerald

So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

-The Great Gatsby

5. Nicholas Sparks

I am nothing special, of this I am sure. I am a common man with common thoughts and I’ve led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten, but I’ve loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me, this has always been enough.

-The Notebook

6. Holly Black

We are, largely, who we remember ourselves to be. That’s why habits are so hard to break. If we know ourselves to be liars, we expect not to tell the truth. If we think of ourselves as honest, we try harder.

-The Coldest Girl in Coldtown

7. J.D. Salinger

Among other things, you’ll find that you’re not the first person who was ever confused and frightened and even sickened by human behavior. You’re by no means alone on that score, you’ll be excited and stimulated to know. Many, many men have been just as troubled morally and spiritually as you are right now. Happily, some of them kept records of their troubles. You’ll learn from them—if you want to. Just as someday, if you have something to offer, someone will learn something from you. It’s a beautiful reciprocal arrangement. And it isn’t education. It’s history. It’s poetry.

-The Catcher in the Rye

8. Marissa Meyer

Vanity is a factor, but it is more a question of control. It is easier to trick others into perceiving you as beautiful if you can convince yourself you are beautiful. But mirrors have an uncanny way of telling the truth.

-Cinder

9. William Shakespeare

When he shall die,
Take him and cut him out in little stars,
And he will make the face of heaven so fine
That all the world will be in love with night
And pay no worship to the garish sun.

-Romeo and Juliet

10. George R.R. Martin

Never forget what you are, for surely the world will not. Make it your strength. Then it can never be your weakness. Armour yourself in it, and it will never be used to hurt you.
