Harry Potter Read-A-Thon: Discussion #4

Harry Potter Readathon

In honor of the 2015 Harry Potter Read-A-Thon, every Monday, I’ll be posting an update here at Brewing Up Books as to my own reading progress, as well as a discussion that you’re more than welcome to continue onto your blog.

Before jumping into this week’s discussion, here is a potential schedule that you can follow that will help you stay on track and finish up the Read-A-Thon by May 31st:

  • Feb. 1 – Sorcerer’s Stone
  • Feb. 18 – Chamber of Secrets
  • Mar. 1 – Prisoner of Azkaban
  • Mar. 20 – Goblet of Fire
  • April 13 – Order of the Phoenix
  • April 28 – Half-Blood Prince
  • May 1 – Deathly Hallows

Discussion – Gilderoy Lockhart

“Gilderoy Lockhart, Order of Merlin, Third Class, Honorary Member of the Dark Force Defense League, and five times winner of Witch Weekly’s Most Charming Smile Award. But I don’t talk about that; I didn’t get rid of the Banden Banshee by smiling at him.”

Gilderoy Lockhart is likely the most conceited of Rowling’s characters, constantly emphasizing his good looks and impressive achievements.  Undeniably, the entire female wizarding world has fallen head-over heels in love with him.  Little do they know, Lockhart isn’t exactly the man he claims to be…

Harry and Ron are both understandably appalled when they learn of Lockhart’s underhanded tricks and uncanny ability to erase minds.  When they expose Lockhart’s little secret, he threatens to wipe their memories.  Rather than having the intended effect, the charm backfires (due to Ron’s faulty wand) and Lockhart erases his own memory.  Later on in the series, Harry and Ron stumble across him in St. Mungo’s, having recovered few to none of his memories.  Do you think this was a fitting punishment?

Trivia

This week’s trivia game is a character unscramble.  Each week, along with a discussion, there will be a trivia/puzzle component of our post, giving participants (and non participants) an opportunity to pit their Harry Potter knowledge against one another. When you think you’ve solved one of the weekly puzzles, type out your answers (or scan/take a picture of them) and email them to brewingupbooks@gmail.com

The first person to email us all of the correct answers will be featured in next week’s post, along with his/her blog and Goodreads account. Ready to test your luck?

Unscramble each of the character names below.  Fill in each letter with its corresponding number to complete the phrase at the bottom.

  1. I always liked Lockhart’s character.I liked how he made everything about himself even if didn’t concern I guess it did justice to everyone he ever wiped memory of but I’d have been okay if his memory loss was temporary.
