The Coffee Book Tag

I was tagged by Cristina @ Girl in the Pages to participate in the Coffee Book Tag!  I’m a huge coffee fanatic, I’m not going to lie.  And my recent acquisition of a Keurig only seems to have made things worse…

1) Black: Name a series that’s tough to get into but has hardcore fans

The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini.  I know quite a few people who have struggled with this series due to the seemingly unending list of strange names.

2) Peppermint Mocha: Name a book that gets more popular during winter or a more festive time of year.

The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling (I’m not a huge fan of any of the new covers, hence the original ones in the picture above).  I feel like these contain quite a few wintery scenes, so people tend to read them more commonly during the winter months.  Personally, I like to reread the series around the holidays (although I haven’t a clue as to why).

3) Hot Chocolate: What is your favorite children’s book?

I’m not sure if these are considered children’s books, but I loved the Nancy Drew series while growing up.  They’re some of the first books that I read on my own, and I have fond memories of reading them with my dad every night before bedtime.  I think I made my way to the 50-something book in the series before I gradually lost interest in the series and began reading other literary works.

4) Double Shot of Espresso: Name a book that kept you on the edge of your seat until start to finish.

This was a tough one – I could have mentioned two or three dozen books that would be applicable.  I decided to go with Cinder, though, because it stands out from all of the other books I have read to date, both in respect to its plot and characters.  This was my first foray into steampunk, and I found myself thoroughly enjoying the series.  Before starting the book, I thought it would be a boring and stereotypical Cinderella retelling, but I couldn’t have been more wrong.

5) Starbucks: Name a book you see everywhere.

Since I couldn’t pick just one, I’ve decided to go with Fangirl and Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell.  I picked up Eleanor & Park a few months ago but couldn’t seem to get into it.  I actually ended up marking it DNF at approximately 180 pages.  As a result, I haven’t read anything else by Rainbow Rowell, but I’ve considered giving it another go at some point in the future.

6) That Hipster Coffee Shop: Give a book by an indie author a shout-out!

My shout-out goes to Logan Byrne, who wrote A Million Little Snowflakes.  He provided me with a free copy of the book in return for an honest review, and I ended up loving it!  To read my review, click here.

7) Oops! I accidentally got decaf! Name a book you were expecting more from.

Requiem, by Lauren Oliver, for sure!  I loved the first two books in the Delirium series (Delirium and Pandemonium).  Both books ended with an extreme cliffhanger, and by the end of the second book in the series, a love triangle had emerged.  I was hoping for a dramatic ending to the trilogy, but it left off on an extremely disappointing note, leaving all loose ends fully exposed and providing absolutely no resolution/closure.  I really expected a bit more…

8) The Perfect Blend: Name a book or series that was both bitter and sweet but ultimately satisfying.

Champion, by Marie Lu, tore my heart to shreds.  Without a doubt.  I called a friend in tears after finishing the book and couldn’t form a single coherent thought.  I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but you definitely know what I’m talking about if you’ve read the book!
