Here is the second edition of Book Reviews by a Movie Watcher!  This week, I will be talking about Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

For those of you who are new to BRBAMW, I am provided with the cover and summary of a book that I have never previously heard of.  Using this information, I create my own version of the plot and attempt to rate the book.  Let’s get started!

Cover & Summary

Romance was not part of Nora Grey’s plan. She’s never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how hard her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch comes along. With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Patch draws Nora to him against her better judgment.

But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora’s not sure whom to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is and seems to know more about her than her closest friends. She can’t decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.

For she is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen – and, when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost Nora her life.

Initial Questions/Concerns

Romance is not part of anyone’s plan. Again with the names… Nora Grey, anyone? and Vee?? Patch?!?! What are these names???

This sounds like the start of a very bad night on the town, particularly the portion about Patch drawing “Nora to him against her better judgement” 0_0 Why are you trying to decide if you should fall in love with your stalker? If he knows this much about you before even meeting you, you need to run away and join the witness protection program. Immediately.  WARNING: DO NOT “fall into his arms!!!” That is likely the worst possible scenario in this situation.  This girl does not sound mentally stable.

I’m so confused. Can we talk about the ‘ancient battle’?  I thought this was a high school love story, not an ancient greek mythology recreation. This book just sounds scary. Especially the cover.  I have no clue what to make of that, and it’s plain terrifying.

My Outline of the Plot

Nora and her best friend Vee walk around school observing the boys and gossiping about the latest drama. Vee always had fun in these situations, but Nora never did. As they walked mindlessly down the halls, they didn’t notice everyone staring at them. One boy in particular was paying close attention to Nora. The way she talked so carelessly with her friend caught his attention. Soon Patch became obsessed with the girl who walked the halls. His obsession started out slow, and then it began to take control of his life. Every moment he was thinking about her. He couldn’t wait to get to school just to watch her walk the halls.

Things get scary for Nora when the creepy guy from across the hall starts to talk to her. Vee encourages her to talk to him, hoping she will get a boyfriend. But Nora sees him differently, she takes him for what he is, a Stalker (with a capital S). Nora tries to stay away from him, but he keeps coming closer. So close that Nora’s father becomes involved. Her father is the king of the land and he doesn’t like that his daughter has a stalker. He threatens to hurt Patch which causes a battle to occur.

Patch eventually gets killed in battle, and Nora goes on with her life and eventually finds a husband outside the walls of high school.
