I’m currently wrapping up my senior year of college under…slightly different circumstances than I was originally anticipating. COVID-19 threw a bit of a monkey-wrench in my spring semester plans, resulting in 50% of the semester being held online and the indefinite postponement of graduation. Needless to say, I’m looking forward to the semester wrapping up within the next two weeks and receiving my degree at the end of May.
In other news, I’ve recently committed to attend medical school in the fall! I’m ecstatic to continue my education in a field that I’m so passionate about, and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store! I’m also excited to move to an entirely new state and city, explore a new location, and meet my future classmates. I’m hoping to document my medical school journey by posting regular updates (both bookish and non-bookish) on my blog, as well as filming the occasional vlog for my booktube channel.
2020 looks like it’s going to be a great year with respect to new releases! Quite a few of my favorite authors are publishing new works, and I’m also planning to pick up a few releases from new-to-me authors throughout the year. If you’re curious to hear about some of the upcoming publications that I’m most excited about, keep reading!
We’re officially t minus 10 days away from the season seven premiere of HBO’s Game of Thrones on July 16th, and I couldn’t be more ecstatic! It’s been 375 days since the final episode of season six aired, which is an atrocity in and of itself, leading to widespread withdrawal among viewers. Don’t even get me started on the unfortunate fact that there are only two abbreviated seasons remaining.
I have an unhealthy book-buying obsession, particularly when it comes to purchasing entire series in a single sitting without having read a single installment in said series. While this method proves rather unfortunate when I’m assigning a one star review to the first book in the series, my inner perfectionist is overjoyed to see the entire series (with matching covers, of course) perched on my bookshelf.
I’m a highly impatient person (and no, I do not need a “Patience is a virtue…which you are clearing lacking” lecture). So when it comes to release dates, I watch them like a hawk, checking back frequently because I’ve mentally convinced myself that this will change the outcome. Or that the dates will have been magically moved up…but then again, who am I kidding? Combine this with my infatuation with “Pre-Order” buttons and a complete lack of self-restraint, and you have a recipe for disaster. Nevertheless, I don’t think I’ll be putting an end to this habit anytime soon.
Just in case you don’t share my peculiar obsession with stalking the websites, twitters, facebooks, personal lives, etc. of authors with upcoming releases, I figured I would divert my restlessness and compile a list of upcoming releases during the fall of 2016. And yes, this might give me another excuse to check those publication dates again…
eReaders have become widely popular over the past decade and are now a staple for most bookworms. If you’re currently in the market for an eReader, it’s often challenging to gauge which device will be best suited to your needs and preferences – should you get a Kindle? Something with E-ink technology? A touchscreen? A tablet with additional capabilities? Wifi and 3G?
I’ve gone through quite a few eReaders myself throughout the years (I seem to be particularly brutal on them…or I’ve just had exquisitely bad luck), and I’ve consequently had the opportunity to experiment with a variety of features and designs. While I am in no way a technological expert, I figured it couldn’t hurt to share my experiences, likes, dislikes, etc., imparting information I wish I had known prior to purchasing these devices.
2015 was an extremely successful year, for both of us, and it marked the one year anniversary for Brewing Up Books. We decided to compile a brief post to serve as our year in review, in celebration of many more to come!
For us, 2015 was laden with countless excellent young adult and adult new releases, as well as a few older publications that we fell in love with. With the year coming to a rapid close, we wanted to share some of our favorites reads from the past twelve months. A few of these could come in handy for those Barnes and Noble giftcards that your family sends you throughout the holidays!
I like to think that I’ve figured out how to add books to my TBR pile that I’ll enjoy – that I’ve turned it into an exact science…at least until I’m up at 3am writing a 1-star review that’s turned into more of a one-sided rant. I thought I’d share my (not always perfect) formula for selecting books and hopefully learn a bit about how other people choose books – who knows, maybe I’ve been doing something wrong!
