Profile Picture

I’m an energetic bookworm with a love of reading and a high tolerance for caffeinated beverages. When I’m not wrapped up in hobbies like horseback riding and trail running, I’m usually engrossed in a fantasy, horror, or psychological thriller, interspersed with the occasional historical fiction and literary fiction.

My Current Obsessions

  • Coffee. I start every morning with a healthy 1-2 cups, and I’ll never turn down an afternoon or evening coffee! I’m not particular about my coffee, although I firmly believe that hot coffee is superior to iced coffee in every circumstance (including the hottest days of summer!).
  • Walking into a bookstore with one or two books in mind, and walking out with an armful of books that I hadn’t originally intended to purchase. I like to keep it interesting and unpredictable, what can I say?
  • I find psychological thrillers fascinating, regardless of their medium. I will continually try to guess any and every plot twist, regardless of how ridiculous my theories might be.

Bookish Pet Peeves

  • I have zero tolerance for fluffy contemporary novels that are laden with stereotypical tropes and are severely lacking a plot. I solely foray into the contemporary genre when I am maniacally wishing to write a rant-laden review.
  • Insta-love, love triangles, and similarly overwritten cliches that are incorporated into literary relationships with infuriating frequency and never fail to frustrate me.
  • Damsels in distress who remain stuck in frustratingly prohibitive nineteenth century ideologies in which women are utterly incapable of accomplishing anything by themselves, let alone saving their own lives.

A Few of my Favorites

  • Books: The Way of Kings, The Name of the Wind, Gone Girl, The Whisper Man, Cujo, Misery, Stillhouse Lake, The Martian, Water for Elephants, Les Miserables, Shutter Island, Bird Box
  • Authors: Brandon Sanderson, Patrick Rothfuss, Alex North, J.K. Rowling, Stephen King, Josh Malerman, Andy Weir, Gillian Flynn, Charles Dickens
  • Genres: fantasy, thriller, mystery, horror
